The increasing importance of online media is one of the topics to be discussed at a master class in online media regulation in Istanbul opening on 17 April 2013. The event is hosted by the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media, Dunja Mijatović.

“The master class events have become a valuable tool to receive training, share experiences and discuss important subjects connected to media freedom, including online media and its essential role as a platform for exercising freedom of expression,” Mijatović said at the opening of the event.

The event brings together more than 20 participants representing regulatory authorities, government ministries, legislators and civil society from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Kyrgyzstan. During the three-day event they will discuss subjects such as Internet regulation, the role of the government, regulation of online comments and self-regulatory mechanism.

The master class is the fifth organized by the Office of the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media in co-operation with Albany Associates.

The governments of Austria, Azerbaijan, Czech Republic, France, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Norway and Turkey provided financial support for the event.
