OSCE media freedom representative mourns death of Karol Jakubowicz

VIENNA, 29 April 2013 – The OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media, Dunja Mijatović, today expressed deep sorrow following the death of Polish professor and journalist Karol Jakubowicz who died on 28 April.

“We have lost an advocate and an inspiring voice for media freedom and media pluralism in Europe and around the world. Karol’s knowledge, expertise and sound judgment will be deeply missed and I offer my sincere condolences to his relatives, colleagues and friends,” Mijatović said.

Jakubowicz was a leading expert on European media and held many prominent positions. He led committees on media issues at the Council of Europe and UNESCO, and served as Director of the Polish Television. Jakubowicz was also an adviser on broadcast media laws to governments, NGOs and international organizations, including the Office of the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media.
