VIENNA, 11 April 2011 - Dunja Mijatović, the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media, strongly condemned today the bomb attack that targeted Mutlu Esendemir, editor of television station Kanal T in Nicosia in northern Cyprus.

“I am glad that the journalist is in stable condition,” Mijatović said. “Violence against journalists is an attack against free expression. Beyond dramatically impacting the lives of individuals, it always threatens the entire media community.”

“I hope that masterminds and perpetrators of this vicious act will be expediently brought to justice.”

Esendemir suffered leg injuries on the night of April 5, when a bomb exploded as he was opening the door of his car.
