OSCE media freedom representative condemns attack on Russian journalist, calls for thorough investigation

VIENNA, 24 October 2013 – OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media Dunja Mijatović today expressed deep concern following an attack on journalist Sergei Reznik in Rostov-on-Don in the south of Russia.

“Attacks like these are simply unacceptable. I trust that the authorities will conduct a thorough and swift investigation of this case and bring those responsible to justice,” Mijatović said.

According to media reports, Reznik, a well-known investigative journalist and blogger in Rostov region, was attacked by two assailants on the evening of 22 October and suffered serious injuries. Reznik is known for his critical reporting, including with regards to local authorities.
