VIENNA, 31 July 2003 - The OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media, Freimut Duve, today presented to the OSCE participating States a booklet entitled Media in Multilingual Societies, a compilation of five country reports.

The publication, a result of a project launched by the Office of the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media in September 2002, addresses the role of the media in different languages within several multilingual democracies.

Independent experts wrote reports on the current working environment for the media in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Luxembourg, Moldova, Serbia and Montenegro and Switzerland.

The booklet examines best practices in the countries concerned and offers concrete recommendations.

Print copies can be obtained from the Office of OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media.
